Stunning! Absolutely stunning. Having had many disappointing meals out locally, this was such a pleasant surprise. Recommended to us by our neighbours we finally went for a mid-week dinner and I wished I’d come here sooner, we will be back for Saturday brunch!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, this evening. A romantic meal for two, set in lovely surroundings. Food was really good.The new pickle butter on warm muffins was delicious. You certainly don't leave hungry. Starters and mains were enough for us. Very well presented and all staff were professional and welcoming. We will definitely return and strongly recommended. Incredible food with fantastic service. Polite and friendly staff providing excellent service throughout. We took our 4 month old who decided to wake up just as the food arrived. Staff took some of the plates back to keep them warm, for when we were ready! My Father-in-law says "Whoever chose the wine obviously knows what they're doing!". Great selection of drinks alongside a brilliant menu that, being unchanged, obviously works well. No baby changing facilities unfortunately but we appreciate that room, in an old building, in a luxury, as was our visit! We look forward to returning again very soon! Thanks to The Merry Monk team!

Since my first visit in 2006, I have been wanting to get back to the UK and more importantly back to the “Merry Monk” It has been a long awaited homecoming to a fabulous pub restaurant nestled in a quaint enclave of Isleham. The pub has taken on a more cozy, rustic, yet modern flair which complements this former 17th century cottage house. Seating up to 60 patrons, Reservations are recommended. Adrian gave us his VIP treatment as well to other customers during our dinner service. My colleague and I got the fillet with the peppercorn sauce. It was everything I expected it to be, fabulous! Such a tender cut a beef, cooked to absolute perfection. Complimented with a Caesar Salad with anchovies fillets with crisp Romaine lettuce. Chocolate mousse rounded out the meal for me. Which is to die for. My expectations were indeed exceeded by the fantastic surroundings and a sublime dinning experience. A true gem with a great beer and wine selections. Also, the sticky toffee pudding was heavenly. I highly recommend “The Merry Monk” for your next night out with you better half or your close friends. Thank you for a great dining experience.
4 of us had a lovely lunch. Everything was perfect, definitely worth making a trip for the food, it’s up there with the best.
The service started before we walked into the building. We had arrived early and were sitting outside in the car on a rather warm day, a member of staff arriving for work a few minutes before opening invited us in which was very kind. We had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Both the owner and staff were so friendly and we got a really genuine welcome even thought this was our first visit. We ordered a bottle of white wine and loved that our glasses came chilled - nice touch! The menu was varied and we chose the treacle muffin bread to start followed by pan fried filet of hake with mussels and the roast pork with accompanying vegetables. Both were beautifully presented and cooked. We followed with a (flaming) Apple Tart and Affogato again both were delicious. We cannot fault the food or service - we are not locals but were made to feel so welcome by everyone the service and attention were second to none. The food was delicious and cooked with real care. A really excellent experience and our thanks to the whole team for making such a great end to our weekend.
